COPIAH ACADEMY COLONELS
Class 2-A, District 4
2007 Results: 11-2 overall, 3-1 district - lost in 2nd round of the playoffs to Centreville Academy
Key Losses: QB Daniel Simms, WR Hunter Greer
Head Coach: Scott Cline (entering 2nd season)
Coach's 2008 Outlook:
Copiah Academy Offense: With the departure of last year's quarterback, the Colonels will look to quarterback/tailback Ben Boone to carry the spread offense. Boone's help in the backfield will come from fullback Bryce Guess. The Colonels will use Boone's and Guess' ability to run the ball to bring the defense inside and give Boone the chance to make plays with his arm and legs.
Copiah Academy Defense: Coach Cline will rely on Bryce Guess for his defensive leadership, this time from his linebacker spot. Guess will have room to make plays this fall because of the two defensive linemen in front of him, Gentry and Pyron, holding up the blockers. If the players adjust from their base 4-4 defense to a 5-man front on certain occasions, the Colonels should have success on defense this season.
Copiah Academy's Notable Games: The big rival on the schedule for Coach Cline and his bunch is district foe, Brookhaven Academy. A non-district game with Oak Forest and a district match-up with Simpson Academy highlight a tough schedule for the Colonels.
Coach's Key To Victory: If the inexperienced guys come around on offense and defense as the season progresses, the Colonels will try to repeat their success from 2007. Consistency on offense and a stout defense will be the backbone for the 2008 Colonels.
