PELAHATCHIE CHIEFS
Class 1-A, Region 4
2007 Results: 4-7 overall, 4-6 in district - no playoffs
Key Losses: OL Cody Huft, OL Pete Young
Head Coach: Bill Ward (entering 19th season)
Coach's 2008 Outlook
Pelahatchie Offense: Coach Bill Ward keeps it really simple when talking about what's important for his offense: score more points and be more consistent. To accomplish those tasks he'll need steady play at quarterback from Dan Harvey and production from running back Lance Davis in the Chiefs wing-T attack. A lot of pressure always falls on the offensive line, those big fellows will be led by Orby Renfroe.
Pelahatchie Defense: Way too many points were scored on the Pelahatchie defense last season. If they want to improve on their record, improving this unit has to be a big focal point heading into the year. Defensive lineman Charles Meddens is the top returner on 'D' and if he can provide pressure and consistency up front, then the Chiefs have a better shot at preventing big plays.
Pelahatchie Notable Games: In Rankin County the huge class 1-A match-ups revolve around Pelahatchie, Pisgah and Puckett. The Chiefs' battles against those teams happen the first week of October and the first week of November.
Coach's Key To Victory: Coach Ward has been a staple of the program for almost two decades. A losing season can not sit well with him. The Chiefs will be motivated to make a better showing in their massive 11-team district and will need big years from Davis and Harvey to make that happen.
