New Orleans running back Deuce McAllister set the Saints all-time touchdown record in scoring his 54th career touchdown in Monday Night's game against the Green Bay Packers. The former Ole Miss Rebel set the record on a four-yard touchdown plunge in the third quarter of a Saints victory.
McAllister says the record was only obtainable with endurance and constant hard work over the years. "I guess the hard work that you put in, knowing that when you started playing, you set certain goals and to be able to achieve it in a situation like that then you're definitely thankful for it," McAllister said.
McAllister may have set an individual record, but he will always thank his teammates for doing the hard hitting and blocking upfront to pave the way for so many of his runs. "I'm extremely proud just for my teammates, because I know they were excited. They wanted to do it. You're thankful for some of the guys you've played with along the way. Looking back eight years later, you're definitely thankful for it," McAllister said.
After the game, McAllister said he and his teammates did not talk about setting the record before hand as he did not want to distract from the flow and ultimately the chance to win the game.
"It's definitely special, whether its a national game or regional. I guess the bigger, the better stage, but it doesn't really matter," McAllister said. Either way, Deuce McAllister left the field Monday Night with his name etched in the Saints record book one more time.
