MSU Men's Basketball Player Named SEC Player of the Week

Jarvis Varnado leads the nation with 31 blocked shots

By Allen Crain

The Southeastern Conference named Mississippi State forward Jarvis Varnado as SEC Men's Basketball Player of the Week.  The junior is deserving of the award after becoming Mississippi State's all-time leading shot blocker last week.

The Brownsville, Tenn., native averaged 10.7 points, 13.7 rebounds and 8 blocks in games last week against Louisiana-Monroe, North Alabama, and
Fairleigh Dickinson.  Before Varnado's honor, former teammate Charles Rhodes was the last Bulldog to be named Player of the Week (March 3, 2008).

On the season, Varnado leads all college basketball players with 31 blocked shots.
