Two of the top JPS schools met at Hughes Field Friday with Provine taking on Callaway. The Chargers scored midway through the 4the quarter to take a 22-20 lead and then held on for their first win over the Rams since 2003.
Late in the first half Rams QB Nickoe Whitley went down with a left knee injury. Whitley told us that he did not know exactly what happened but he did not return to the game.

Whitley watched as the opposing quarterback, Mark Thigpen, scored the touchdown to tie the game. Callaway then went for two and running back Antwaun Garner made it around the left side for the go ahead points.
Provine marched down the field for one last drive, even getting inside the Chargers 20-yard line, before Steve Smith came up with a game clinching interception. The 22-20 win was the first of the season for Callaway and the first loss of the year for Provine.
Provine continues the season next Friday when they meet Lanier at Hughes Field. Callaway will return to Newell Field next week to match up with Jim Hill.
