Hornets Season Outlook

By Allen Crain

LOYD STAR HORNETS

Class 2-A, Region 6

2007 Record:  3-6 overall, 1-5 in district

Key Losses:  LB Nathan Williams

Head Coach:  Ryan Ross (entering 2nd season)

Coach's 2008 Outlook:

Loyd Star offense:  The Hornets use a split-back scheme since it fits the team's personnel the best, according to Coach Ross.  Last season, the Hornets passed for more than 1,600 yards and rushed for more than 1,200 yards.  Offensive lineman Grant Britt and WR Antoine Smith return to lead the offense.

Loyd Star defense:  Coach Ross will have use a 3-4 defense to put his team in the best position to succeed on defense.  The Hornets return the majority of their linebackers, including Andrew Rushing and T.J. Floyd.  Preston Hebert returns at safety.

Loyd Star Notable Games:  The two biggest games on the schedule are showdowns against Wesson in late September and against Enterprise in mid-October.

Coach's Key To Victory:  On offense, Coach Ross would like for his team to be more physical this season.  On defense, the Hornets are looking to create more turnovers and must do a better job of stopping the run.
