The vehicle belonging to the slain son of longtime Hinds County Supervisor George Smith Sr. has been located by police.
Authorities say about 1 p.m. Sunday, a Jackson resident called police after discovering the abandoned pickup in west Jackson.
Deputy Chief Gerald Jones said a check of the license plate confirmed that the truck belonged to 47-year-old George Smith Jr.
Jackson police say a man who had been shot in the face was identified Saturday as the son of a Hinds County Supervisor.
Police say the partly clad body of 47-year-old George Smith Jr. was found Friday in woods in west Jackson.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said he had been shot in the face.
Smith is the son of County Supervisor George Smith Sr. Police say the younger Smith had been reported missing.
His death is Jackson's 65th homicide this year. Police have not named any suspects or made any arrests.
Jackson Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a wooded area off Shaw Road shortly after 10:00 a.m. Friday.
The death is being investigated as a homicide. Police were called after a passerby saw what he believed to be a partially clad human corpse. An autopsy for the unidentified black male is scheduled for a later date, and police say the investigation is ongoing.
