Community Animal Rescue Adoption(CARA), a Jackson animal shelter known for not euthanizing animals, may be looking at the worst case scenario if they have to close because of financial difficulty.
"If we have to put some down, look at all the ones we've found good homes for," according to Janet Madden, Shelter Manager.
Madden says she is constantly looking for ways to make the situation better. Since funding for the facility depends solely on donations, it makes things a bit more difficult, she said.
Madden will attend an 'emergency meeting' with other staff members Monday evening to discuss what's next for the shelter.
Over 300 animals are currently being housed there with limited adopting taking place.
"Supply is greater than the demand," Madden said.
Madden says it's expensive to keep the facility open noting utilities, building insurance, and animal care as expenses.
No employees are being let go at this point but shelter hours have been cut back; Now being open, for the most part by appointment only.
If the facility is forced to close, animals at the noted "no-kill shelter" may be euthanized and some will be taken home by shelter employees.
