CENTRAL HOLMES CHRISTIAN TROJANS
MPSA Class 1-A, District 2
2007 Results: 6-5 overall, 5-3 in district - no playoffs
Key Losses: (WR/RB/DB/K) John Hays, (WR/RB/DB) Kasey Ingold and (OL/LB) Patrick Nolan
Head Coach: Robert Alexander (entering 2nd season)
Coach's 2008 Outlook:
Central Holmes Offense: With the departure of playmakers like Hays and Ingold, Central Holmes will rely on fullback Ricky Winstead and running back Trey Dixon to create a lot of offense this season. Of course they'll need holes to run through and that's a cause of concern with the loss of four linemen. Gaddy Terry and Jordan Clark will try to step in and fill their shoes up front.
Central Holmes Defense: The Trojans lost a good secondary from last season, meaning there's pressure on the guys up front heading into this year to cause havoc and help out the young defensive backs. A lot of that pressure should be placed on defensive end Cole Johnson, who led the team with seven sacks in 2007. Winstead is a valuable linebacker and Jay Murtagh will be the leader of that inexperienced secondary.
Central Holmes Notable Games: Why not start the season with your biggest rival, Central Holmes does that when they travel to play Winona Christian in week one.
Coach's Key To Victory: It's pretty obvious, but things should be much smoother with Coach Alexander entering his 2nd season at the helm. The system is now familiar and the kids have a good feel for the staff. The Trojans finished with a winning record in 2007, something they hope happens again. This time they just want to earn a spot in the playoffs.
