PORTER'S CHAPEL ACADEMY EAGLES
MPSA Class 1-A, District 5
2007 Record: 9-4 overall, 3-1 in district - lost in 2nd round to Glenbrook
Key Losses: RB Austin Barber, QB Matt Cranfield, OL/DL Matthew Hall (Hinds Community College)
Head Coach: Randy Wright (entering 5th season)
Coach's 2008 Outlook:
Porter's Chapel Offense: The Eagles will run the majority of their offensive sets from the I-formation. With four returning linemen, Coach Wright believes this offense fits the personnel of his team. Colby Rushing and Jeremy Roach return to their wide receiver spots, while two new transfers will fill the void left in the backfield. Clayton Holmes will take over at quarterback, and Josh Perry is the team's new running back.
Porter's Chapel Defense: With a 4-4 defensive alignment, Coach Wright wants to put the most pressure on the quarterback possible with his two big defensive ends, 6'6", 230 lbs Jacob Rachal and 6'5", 225 lbs Reed Gordon. The leader of the secondary is Colby Rushing. Rushing recorded nine interceptions last season.
Porter's Chapel Notable Games: According to Coach Wright, the two most important games on the team's schedule are Central Hinds and Benton Academy. The Eagles seem to play just as tough a game against another rival in Heidelberg Academy.
Coach's Key To Victory: On offense, Coach Wright says the Eagles need to be more consistent. A lack of depth on the offensive line could be a position to watch for the Eagles. On defense, the Eagles should be fine as long as the players stay healthy.
